Trip Information
I am dedicated to making your day on the water a memorable one.
Before booking your trip, we’ll discuss your specific goals and I’ll outline the available options. Some anglers want big fish, some want numbers, some just want a good day on the water, and others simply to learn the when, where, & how. By understanding exactly what you want, I can design your trip to meet your specific wants. About expectations… I will always be honest about fishing and catching expectations. Fishing is not always great, but I guarantee that I’ll be straight with you about what’s happening out there. I’m a fishing guide, not a cowboy, so there’s no bull involved.
RATES
Full Day: $575 (6 hours)
Partial Day – $375 (4 hours)
Trips are best suited for one to three anglers.
What should you bring?
Dress for the weather forecast and always dress warmer than you think! Layers are good, foul weather gear, sunglasses, sun screen, and a hat are recommended. Bring whatever food & drinks you wish.
What’s provided?
Fishing equipment, tackle, lures, and flies are provided for your use at no charge. You are also welcome to bring your own fishing gear if you wish. The boat is equipped with a Yeti cooler to store your food & drinks and is a licensed charter boat so you do not need an individual fishing license.
Where do we meet?
Once your trip is confirmed, I’ll call you two days prior to the date to coordinate logistics and provide directions. I may recommend a start time but the timing is up to you so we’ll agree on the time during the call.
Can I keep fish?
Yes, within the legal season, size, and possession limits. If you wish to keep fish they will be placed in a live-well aboard the boat and you can transfer them to your cooler at the end of the day.
Looking to learn more or become a better angler?
I also offer “learning trips” for anglers who want to learn more about fishing locations, techniques, boat control, and using & interpreting their electronics.
Book a day, bring a chart book, notepad, and GPS if you wish. We’ll focus on the area you are interested in, mark the chart with the prime locations, the best time of year, preferred tide, practice techniques, and learn how to properly setup and control the boat over structure. Many clients claim they learned more in one day doing this than in five years of fishing on their own.
Seasonal Fishing Opportunities
May & June
Eastern Bay and the waters surrounding Kent Island provide great opportunities for a mix of the large ocean-run and smaller resident stripers as they work their way down from the spawning areas in the upper portion of the Chesapeake. We target and follow the fish from the shallows out to offshore structure as they move through the area. The bite is usually very consistent from early May thru mid-June.
August & September
Resident school size stripers blitz baitfish on the surface while the gulls crash from above. Bluefish and Spanish mackerel are often lurking in the mix and provide an opportunity for a Chesapeake grand slam. This is prime time to catch large numbers of stripers on any tackle you wish.
October & November
As the water cools multiple fishing patterns develop in October. We may start by casting topwater lures in the shallows, then move to jig on offshore structure, and end the day chasing breaking fish. October is our wild card month, the bait and fish are moving at this time of the year and the fishing can be great or challenging.
December
Early winter can be great for both quantity and quality. We fish the Lower Bay and Potomac River area at this time of the year to intercept the migration of ocean run stripers working their way in from the coast and the resident fish migrating down the Bay to their winter grounds. This is big water, big fish fishing at its best.
